What Is Magnet Therapy, And What Magnets Should Be Used?

Magnetic therapy is a theory based on the perceived benefit that magnetic fields provide therapeutic benefits and relief from pain. The theory behind magnetic therapy is that the magnetic fields penetrate the skin as it travels from north to south poles. In doing so, the flow of blood is thought to be improved in the underlying tissues, altering the body’s electromagnetic balance.

From the diagram above, this illustrates that when a magnetic field is applied, it is thought to improve the flow of blood by separating the blood cells which allows the cells to pick up more oxygen and release more energy.

At FIRST4MAGNETS® we do not have scientific evidence to support the theory, however we have a number of customers that have purchased therapy magnets who have been delighted with the results they have experienced. Our customers have used these magnets to relieve symptoms of conditions such as arthritis, back pain and muscular problems.

Gold-Plated Magnets

The most common magnets used with magnet therapy are usually gold plated, as they can come into direct contact with the skin without causing irritation and can be held in position for as long as required without causing any adverse effects. People who use these magnets place them over the area of pain or discomfort and apply them using surgical tape, plasters or even sewn within clothing. Nickel-plated magnets are not advised for magnetic therapy, as they can cause irritation for those with a nickel allergy.
