Hand-Controlled Lifting Magnets

INTRODUCTION

Using lifting magnets is one of the quickest and most efficient methods of handling and moving steel components or loads. Our range of permanent magnetic lifters use manually switchable magnetic technology (no electricity required) and tested to hold three times their labelled safe working load (SWL). With no running costs, permanent lifting magnets can significantly increase your lift rate and reduce operating costs.

OPERATIONS

Each of our lifting magnets is manually operated, allowing the user to quickly and safely switch between the magnetised and demagnetised state. Safety is the most important consideration when choosing a lifting magnet and each of our products is supplied with a data sheet, on-device safety information and safety catch to prevent accidental release.

PIC A. The centre rotating magnet is turned 180 degrees to form a magnetic field which creates an internal partially closed circuit, reducing the magnetic field on the base of the unit and effectively turning it off.

PIC B. The centre rotating magnet is turned 180 degrees with opposite polarities facing the outer magnets, this creates magnetic repulsion and a much larger depth of magnetic field which effectively turns on the unit, ready to magnetically attach and lift.

CAPABILITIES

In our range you will find lifting magnets capable of holding steel loads from 125kg up to 2 tonnes in optimum conditions. Influenced by thickness and surface quality of the component. Before operation, it is necessary to find out the percentage of the steel thickness-lifting capacity according to the thickness of the component and capacity curve (below). If its surface roughness Ra is less than 6.3um, the lifting surface gap will not exist, the lifting capacity will be 100%. If the surface roughness Ra is above 6.3um or even worse, the lifter surface gap should be estimated. Find out the percentage that lifting capacity of the lifter may reach from the air gap-lifting capacity curve shown in the performance chart. Combine these two factors and calculating the lifting capacity that the lifter may reach.

CONSIDERATIONS

Lifting magnets are influenced by the thickness and surface quality of the component and therefore careful consideration should be taken and a full risk assessment undertaken. The lifting magnets are tested on mild steel with a thickness of 60mm, any reduction in steel thickness may result in a reduction in lifting capability. Additionally, for optimum performance, surface roughness (Ra) should be less than 6.3um. Use our handy graph to assess potential lifting capability:

OPTIONS

An efficient substitution to slings, chains, or hooks, the hand controlled permanent lifting magnet range gives users quick and easy movement of steel and ferrous parts. A more efficient substitution to slings, chains, or hooks, the hand controlled lifting magnet gives users greater control while reducing load damage.

While our range of lifting products have been tested to support three times their SWL (Safe Working Load) users should use caution and risk assess the use of this magnet as part of their Health and Safety policy. Given the number of variables that can affect the attractive force of this product such as material thickness, material permeability and surface area in contact with the unit we recommend conducting your own tests before use. Further to this, the magnets should never be used to lift materials over anyone or anything that may be injured or damaged in the event that the attractive force is compromised. Magnet Expert Ltd accepts no liability for injury to persons or damage to property caused by the use of this product.
