There is no limit to how you can use magnets, this especially comes in handy when we hear from customers with unusual applications. Our sales team recently dealt with a customer who was looking for a way to secure their motorcycle parcel rack to their motorcycle.
Our experts know that motorcycles can pick up speed, so they needed to ensure the magnets they recommend would stay securely in place.
With this in mind, our experts recommended a 20mm dia x 7mm thick N42 Neodymium Pot Magnet with M4 stud.
Neodymium pot magnets are made of a powerful Neodymium magnet sunken into a steel shell meaning that the north pole is on the center of the magnetic face and the south pole is on the outer edge around it.
The steel pot increases the adhesive force of the magnets giving them an incredible hold for their size.
The customer purchased four of these magnets to correspond to the 4 washers attached to the rack. The magnets have screws/studs built in, which were perfect for threading through the washers, allowing them to be bolted into place.
You may notice from the picture on the right that the faces appear to have a white rim around them. This is because the customer put felt covers over the magnet faces, to avoid scratching his bike when he is moving the rack on and off of his bike.
The magnets are strong enough to pull through the felt and hold the rack securely into place, whilst being able to be taken off with ease and it also looks like part of the design!
